Workplace coffee trends: How Coinadrink can enhance your office brew
Coffee, java, joe. The fuel of the working day, and one of the best imported products to become a mainstay in British culture – from the coffee shop chains all the way to coffee machines in the workplace.
And while we’ve got a handle on great coffee here at Coinadrink, we can’t change what is steadily a constant in the world of brewing – new trends come and go, and sometimes they change the whole game in their stride.
Here’s what we’ve learned about the change in coffee consumption across the world of work, plus a bit extra on how we can deliver a hot beverage service to you that’ll not just improve taste but morale and productivity too.
Top coffee drinking professions
A UK company, Pressat, recently conducted a survey to find out about national coffee consumers trends, and the results, determined from a group of 20,000 workers across multiple professions.
The results are very interesting to us as operators of hot drinks services all across the West Midlands.
The big statistic to take away from the survey is that journalists and media professionals top the charts when it comes to coffee consumed per day – an average of 3.62 cups, at that. Perhaps it’s the long hours of the job that necessitates an extra brew per day, but it’s fun to think that the headlines we read are infused with an extra dose of caffeine.

And it’s a profession that we have catered for often in the past, servicing offices and agencies with a multitude of different hot beverage machines. We hear the number “3.62” and don’t sweat it, as we know how efficient the machines are at producing high quality cup after cup of delicious coffee.
Second in the rankings were, less surprisingly, members of the healthcare industry such as doctors and nurses. We can’t fault any hardworking healthcare professional for indulging in a fuel to keep them going through a long day, as it’s a tough job that takes a lot of energy and dedication. These heroes apparently drink 3.60 cups a day on average, so it was a close one for sure.
Police officers, balancing long hours and a similarly tough yet vital job in society, came in third with an average of 2.52 cups a day, and electricians, marketers, and advertising professionals were much lower, at an average of 1.3 cups a day (or less).
Marketers and advertisers want quality, convenience and customisation
It’s interesting to note from the survey’s findings that marketers and advertisers, despite not drinking as much, tend to spend more.
For many, it seems that quality is over quantity. And for some people more than others, the importance of customising a drink to one’s own specific tastes and dietary needs cannot be understated.

But here’s the thing: we don’t think that it should be a compromise between great coffee that’s expensive or mediocre coffee that’s cheap. Our ethos has always been to provide customers with a service plan that analyses everything from budget to staff needs, delivering an affordable coffee service that never feels like settling for second best.
The rise of plant-based milks
This ties in nicely with the rise of milk alternatives that have swept the nation. Oat milk and plant-based milk slowly becoming more and more common, not just in coffee shops but in workplaces and at home.
The world is a different place than when milkmen dropped bottles off at every door, and we take great pride in finding new options for curious and conscientious consumers.
In fact, the survey states that up to 22% of working people prefer oat or plant-based milk in their hot drinks – wow!
At Coinadrink, we provide a multitude of machines that allow for multiple milk options (say that five times fast), such as the La Radiosa, and the Vitro X1 MIA. These state-of-the-art machines give staff the freedom to ask for what they want in a brew, ensuring all-round satisfaction.
Missing coffee = a drop in productivity
Another startling statistic from the survey is that 20.32% said they’re significantly affected if they don’t get their regular drink of coffee. That’s a fifth of the workforce who are no longer firing on all cylinders if there’s no suitable hot beverage solution.
It seems that the presence of a serviced coffee machine is really the best way to avoid this problem entirely, as it ensures an ever-running coffee service that doesn’t disappoint.
