What exactly is in tap water?
Picture this. You’re settled in for a day of work, you’re at your desk, and you get thirsty. You go to the kitchen or breakroom, take out a glass and fill it up with water from the tap. But maybe there’s an odd taste, or smell, or even feel within the mouth.
Suddenly, quenching thirst no longer feels satisfying.
At Coinadrink, our mission is to prevent that nightmare scenario from ever happening, transforming the bare minimum of hydration into a premium workplace benefit that members of staff can actually look forward to.
Here’s why we’re flushing the idea of drinking just tap water in 2026 and transitioning to the refreshing simplicity of a water cooler.
What’s really in your tap water?
It’s completely natural for water to contain a range of minerals, and there’s nothing strictly unhealthy about it. But when high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium are present, it leads to something called hard water, which causes limescale buildup and even a metallic aftertaste. The more minerals, the harder the water.
Additionally, the water from your tap has travelled through miles of piping, meaning trace elements of chlorine often remain, which can give tap water a distinct chemical smell or “swimming pool” taste.
This isn’t very desirable when you’re craving a fresh glass of water after intensive or stressful work.
All of this leads to a hydration solution that just isn’t as optimal as it could be. You shouldn’t settle for less than the best when drinking water at work, because it’s a fundamental part of the human experience.

The science of softness
So how do you combat hard water, rich with minerals that may not be giving you the taste you want? Simple: we use Brita water filters, tried and tested, in all of our plumbed-in water coolers and dispensers. They actively soften the water as opposed to just filtering out a few impurities.
Removing things like chlorine and organic matter results in crystal clear water that tastes neutral, is as refreshing as ever, and leaves you with a peace of mind that you’re consuming nothing but clean, hydrating water. When it comes to maintaining productivity, we think it’s the necessary fuel for the brain to keep going.
And whether or not your business is in an area that has predominantly hard or soft water, the filters ensure that every glass is consistent in quality.
One notable example of this is when we were contacted by Morgan Motor Company, a long-time customer of ours based in Malvern, an area with hard water. They were experiencing rapid limescale build up and this was naturally an issue.
After fitting larger Brita water filters to their coolers, it made a massive difference to the service, and they were impressed by our pro-active response to their issue where we went above and beyond for their satisfaction.
Dispensing drinking water in the modern workplace
But beyond the content of the water itself, how is it actually delivered to employees in the workplace?
Well, one of the features of our water service that we’re very proud of is our industry-leading hygiene procedures, which includes regular professional sanitisation, plus the scheduled replacement of water filters on plumbed-in equipment.
We make this a priority because a quality, well-kept water cooler is vital. After all, we all want the peace of mind that what we’re drinking comes from a clean, fresh source.
Additionally, we’ve taken things one step further in the last few years, adding contactless water coolers to our range which can eliminate the risk of cross-contamination – something a regular, communal kitchen tap simply cannot offer.

Productivity in a drop
Did you know that even mild dehydration can lead to reduced focus, poor mood and fatigue? It’s why our water services are such an important facility in the workplace.
We also wanted to preserve the tradition of “water cooler conversation” and make our facilities something that can bring staff together. After all, the best way to discuss the latest gossip is to grab a cool drink of water from the cooler at peak times and have a chat with colleagues.
Something like this may seem simple or commonplace, but it’s an underrated fact that focal points within a business that are designated for breaks and rest and refuelling are a positive contribution to your productivity.
According to one survey, 85% of facilities managers want to provide easy access to filtered water, and it’s a need that we’re passionate at delivering.

Bottled water as an enticing alternative
Outside of plumbed-in water coolers, we do offer equipment that dispense from large water bottles, which is itself filtered from impurities and optimal for drinking. We know that not every workplace layout allows for a plumbed-in system, and our bottled coolers offer greater flexibility.
The primary advantage of a bottled water cooler as opposed to plumbed-in is that they’re effectively cheaper, costing you only a few pounds a week for what is most definitely a vital component of workplace refreshments.
We also offer a recycling service for used plastic bottles as an optional add-on to your water service. Just speak to a member of our team about this and we can integrate it seamlessly into your maintenance and replenishment plan.
Ditch your kitchen tap with Coinadrink
While tap water may get the basic job done, filtered water from a dedicated water cooler – plumbed-in or bottled – simply elevates the hydration experience, tastes better, and is maintained to much higher hygiene standards.
We are proud to offer a 100% hassle-free service, including free installation, regular maintenance, and dedicated customer support team that’ll keep you in the loop about how we’re optimising your hydration station to the highest degree.
