The day of delight is now upon us. As Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and the harsh treatment of Storm Doris is set to be replaced by Storm Ewan, the Nation needs a distraction, and what better one is there than Pancake Day?! Yes, it’s that time of the year again, and while you’re wondering whether you’ll be able to get that all-important flip just right, let’s take a look back as to how this tasty occasion began.
Featuring during the month dedicated to Cancer Awareness, ‘wear it pink’ is a fantastic day that helps gain lots of money in the hope that one day, we will beat Cancer! Set up in 2002, it has raised a whopping £13.2 million pounds by encouraging everyone to donate £2 for spending the day wearing pink! In the hope that it will raise awareness for the need to improve diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure, it is not uncommon for schools, businesses and universities to take part in the scheme which helped raise a record £2.2 million in the year 2011. The mission now is to try and beat that in 2014…
Coinadrink staff will enjoy wearing pink today to help support this great cause!
Today is Black Country Day and is definitely a great occasion to show your love of the Black Country and all things linked! Black Country Day began when people wanted to commemorate the invention of the Newcomen Engine which was the first to make use of the power of steam. Due to the Black Country’s influence on the Industrial Revolution, many people rightly feel that this is a special day that deserves to remembered.
