Your office design could be key to attracting and retaining star talent.
New research has put your office firmly under the spotlight. Studies show that the design of your office, as well as the facilities available to staff, can play a key role in attracting and retaining star performers.
The research was conducted by leading global water filtration and dispenser brand, Brita Vivreau. Coinadrink Limited analyses the findings, which should provide all the inspiration you need to overhaul your environment.
The stats and facts you need to know surrounding office design.
79% of those surveyed say that a good office design would be a key factor to whether they accept a job offer or not. And 73% say that they would be more likely to leave a job if their office wasn’t designed with mental health in mind.
This probably isn’t a surprising find.
The working environment is central to much of our lives. As we have outlined in previous articles, it is believed that the average employee will spend around 90,000 hours of their life at work. It goes without saying that the workplace is vital to staff and in the wake of the pandemic its importance is only growing.
With poor mental health costing UK businesses around £45m a year, it is time to start overhauling your workplace and implementing those all-important wellbeing initiatives.
What can I do to help my team?
Employees are key to the success of every business. With research showing that a happy employee really is a productive employee, you need to explore solutions to deliver a better working environment.
It doesn’t need to be anything dramatic, either. Anything that will show your team you care for their overall wellbeing will make a huge impact.
The impact of Covid-19 on your employees also needs to be considered if you are to satisfy their demands. Interestingly, little under half of those surveyed (43%) said they missed collaboration with colleagues over the past 12-15 months, so implementing a breakout area could be a viable option.
Breakout areas were previously regarded as counter-productive, but that myth was quickly squashed. Taking time out to relax over a tea or coffee for 10 minutes can help your team recharge their batteries, whilst informal conversations over the coffee machine can strengthen working relationships.
It may be a good idea to communicate any ideas with colleagues so they can have an input into what will work for them. Returning to office life could be stressful for some, in which case a quiet area away from the drama would be beneficial. Others may want a breakout area brimming with life.
With a breakout area comes the need for a shift in overall culture. Allowing staff the flexibility to head down for a break whenever they want relieves any pressure, so try not to create a culture that is too work-focussed.
It is vital that all businesses support their teams as the return to normality remains ongoing. If you want any further advice as to how you can upgrade your working environment, contact us and we’d be happy to help.
