Keep hydrated this winter and improve your health.
Rather understandably, hot drinks are extremely popular in the winter. Whilst many of us need our tea or coffee to get us up and running in the morning, the cold, January climes mean our hot drinks machines are working overtime throughout the entire working day rather than just the start. This is all well and good: we’re certainly not one to criticise the consumption of hot drinks in the slightest. However, while the hot drinks machine can’t attract enough visitors, your water cooler nearby is struggling for attention, and this isn’t good. Your health is at risk.
Just like the ‘5 a day’ rule, the 2-litre target is around about what we should be aiming for in our quest for healthy hydration. An everyday target, you could say. Clearly this differs depend on age, gender and how much activity you’re taking part in, but you get the idea. What’s important to realise is that this figure doesn’t differ depending on the time of year. Make no mistake, keeping hydrated in the winter is just as important as in the summer.
Look after your immune system. Look after your health.
The winter season often arrives in a spate of coughs, colds, aches and pains. It’s just one of the reasons why we don’t like this time of the year. We’re not promising that water is a cure to the problems, but it can help by giving your immune system a welcome boost. So, drink up, and stay prepared for anything that threatens to come your way…
Maintain your health by eating correctly.
The depressing nature of the winter months encourage us to ditch our healthy eating attempts and replace our efforts with fatty foods instead. After all, that summer holiday seems ages away, and we need something to cheer us up. What many of us don’t know, however, is that water can help us maintain healthy eating habits. Water increases our metabolism and helps us to feel full for longer, making you more likely to resist that tempting chocolate bar or packet of crisps.
Keep warm with water.
In the colder months, we’re going to be colder. That’s just inevitable. We often see staff coming into work wrapped in thick coats, hats and gloves, but it’s sometimes not quite enough. In what is a bizarre piece of information, did you know that water can help you to feel warmer? Providing you let it warm to room temperature prior to drinking, it can act as a thermal layer, and you can never have too many of those in the winter months…
Water is a powerful tool that impacts our health considerably. It should be consumed in equal or greater measure to that of hot drinks, so you better get dusting off your cooler.
