What is the current attitude towards employee wellness in small businesses?
Small businesses are still struggling with how to improve employee wellness. Studies show that those who did implement wellness initiatives for their staff during and since the pandemic have reaped the rewards, but this was just 53% of small businesses.
This would suggest a lack of idea, budget, direction or all three. Coinadrink Limited the West Midlands vending machine company explores the attitudes towards employee wellness in small businesses.
The problem today.
Employee wellness has always been important, but never more so than when Covid-19 rocked our world. The pandemic has understandably tested our mental health, through fears surrounding health, cash flow and relationships.
But the working world never just stopped, as you would expect. It merely just adapted through hybrid working. That meant we had to cope with the same, if not added, pressure that we always had to before, whilst now also having to deal with the stresses caused by the outside world as well.
People have had to work longer hours or extra roles to support themselves financially. 75% of staff during the pandemic didn’t take a single sick day and only 21% of those who consequently suffered mental health issues took time off work.
This increased business owners’ responsibility to encourage staff to take care of their own wellbeing, but only 55% of staff felt they had the necessary support in place.
The benefits of wellbeing initiatives at work.
According to a report from Xero, it would seem that cost has proved too big a hurdle for small businesses to overcome. This has had a negative impact on employee wellness.
Just over half of small businesses implemented wellbeing initiatives for their staff over the past couple of years.
That’s a shame because the rewards of doing so speak for themselves. 53% saw increased productivity following the introduction of mental health support. It was also linked with revenue growth of over 50% since 2020, as well as 47.3% growth in employee numbers.
What this proves is that there is irrefutable value in investing in your staff’s wellbeing. Happy staff usually equate to productive staff and as an employer you are duty bound to look after yours whilst they are representing your business.
And not all facilities have to be costly.
The value of office coffee machines, water coolers and more.
Coinadrink Limited is a West Midlands based vending machine company that has been supplying quality employee benefits for over 60 years.
Whatever environment you work in, refreshments such as tea and coffee have been a staple of the working day for even longer than that, so we streamline your solution with cost-effective services your staff will love.
Whilst we also manage freestanding vending machines, many businesses across the West Midlands and immediate surrounding areas find value in our range of tabletop office coffee machines or water coolers. These are simple ways to show your employees that you care, without breaking the bank.
Tabletop office coffee machines and water coolers are far more than what they initially seem. Place them in your staff room or even reception area and you bring staff together over a mutual interest, because who doesn’t enjoy fresh bean coffee, fresh leaf tea and beautifully refreshing water?
They represent an opportunity to escape from stress even if just for five minutes, a chance to have an informal chat with colleagues and build relationships.
They can even be the starting point for meaningful conversations about fears or concerns.
