Get your red noses at the ready for funky fundraising!
Red Nose Day is a light-hearted yet fantastic charitable event, conducted by Comic Relief every two years. Everyone is gearing up for a night of comedy and fundraising that will hit our TV screens tonight, with red noses set to be a common sight. But when did it all begin? And why are those funky red noses so significant?
It was first launched in 1998, partly set up by Lenny Henry, and money is raised by people doing funny things either at home, school, or work. The unmissable TV event has always been broadcast on BBC and viewers enjoy watching celebrity guests featuring in comedy sketches knowing that it’s all for a fantastic cause. The red nose is a symbol of the humour, and the masses of people wearing one over the years shows just how high this charity is regarded.
The money that is raised through Red Nose Day is spent on fighting poverty in the UK and Africa, and a staggering £1 billion has been raised since the birth of the famous event. Aside from purchasing a big red nose, there’s also many other things you can do to support the charity, and there’s a long line of official merchandise if you want to help make a change. This year, TK Maxx have pledged to donate at least 50% of their official Comic Relief T-Shirts which are retailing for £14.99, while official Red Nose Day T-Shirts have a starting price of £9.99.
We at Coinadrink want to help raise even more awareness of this terrific cause, and so forth will be giving away a few Comic Relief goodies at the Black Country Chamber Networking Event today. Mugs, pens and keyrings will be distributed to all the visitors at West Bromwich Albion Football Club, so make sure you get in quickly and put the Comic Relief word out there!
