Back in 2016, long before Covid, a UK study revealed that the average employee would sip through 24,684 cups of tea at work throughout a 47-year career. Many of these will be with colleagues.

When the pandemic forced more office workers to operate from home, this was temporarily halted.

The UK Tea and Infusions Association surveyed 1000 Brits to discover that almost 50% said they missed their tea break dearly. 44% said this was because of the lost opportunity to catch up with colleagues, whilst 35% said the tea break was a great opportunity to take a break for their desk.

It’s not all good news for the Nations’ favourite beverage, though, as almost 60% said they do have concerns about the hygienic aspect of making a brew at work again.

But the fact is, a tea break is far more than what it says “on the tin”. Instead, it’s an opportunity to build connections, boost your mood and increase productivity.

Sure, employees are still taking the time out for a tea break whilst working from home, but the social aspect was never replaced.
