How is Simran Salan still finding her management apprenticeship course?
After speaking to Julie Jones earlier this week, next up is our management apprentice Simran Salan. Simran is currently undertaking a four year Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) course with University College Birmingham, with the support of Coinadrink Limited, the vending machine company.
Just like with the rest of our apprentices, it has been a while since you heard from Simran and a lot has changed since we last spoke to her. In fact, she is now approaching the end of her course, which means she is able to provide us with a valuable insight into how she has found the experience with the support of Coinadrink.
Without further ado, Simran talks to us here.
1. It has been a while since we last spoke to you about your apprenticeship. Could you tell us how long you have left on the course?
My teaching finishes December 22 and then I have End Point Assessment (EPA) until June 23. I have then completed my course.
2. How has your apprenticeship helped boost your knowledge and skills in this field?
As previously mentioned, I knew nothing about vending before coming to Coinadrink. Now, I am quite familiar with the business and departments. I also understand the process of everything we do. (operated service, cash counting, cup volumes, digital marketing development etc).
3. And have you noticed any benefits the course has had on you on a personal level?
It has helped to develop my confidence and enable me to come out of my comfort zone. For example, I could never speak on the phone before and now I’m comfortable taking enquiries and calling people internally and externally when needed.
4. What has been your favourite task/module of the apprenticeship?
Second year – Leading people, where my assignment was to investigate Coinadrink’s company culture and do some analysis on Coinadrink’s workforce and daily operations. It was fun speaking to various people and being more hands on with staff. I also achieved a first!
5. Tell us a bit about how Coinadrink have helped support you throughout the course.
Coinadrink has been thoroughly supportive through the apprenticeship, even when I have struggled with content there is always someone to talk to and to seek help from.
6. Would you recommend an apprenticeship to a friend. If so, why?
Without a doubt. I couldn’t see myself going to university without the hands-on working experience. I like being in the working environment as it provides an insight into how to apply theory to practical situations.

Simran joined Coinadrink Limited four years ago and her progress and progression both on a professional and personal level is there for the entire team to see. She has developed into a calm and confident person who is now able to oversee projects and manage a team.
Simran has had valuable experience across a variety of departments within the business, as part of her apprenticeship criteria. These range from finance to marketing to sales. Within these last four years, Simran understands the day-to-day operations of our business from all angles, and now has a deep understanding of what it takes to be in a management position.
From everyone at Coinadrink, well done Simran, and good luck with last few months of teaching before your EPA.
