How is Jack Westwood finding his IT Support apprenticeship course?
Moving on with our latest round of apprenticeship updates, next up is our IT Support apprentice Jack Westwood. You were first introduced to Jack as part of our “meet the team” updates last month, with Jack being one of our new starters for 2o22.
Jack works in our IT department and is thriving between his learning and the in-house experience he is getting.
1. So this is your first apprenticeship with us. Can you tell us a little bit about what the course entails?
My course is an IT Support apprenticeship which entails a lot of different things like how to quickly find problems with different technologies. I also have to learn about web design and how to code in different programming languages like Java and CSS which are both used in websites.
2. What was it that attracted you to enrol on this course?
I had a great opportunity because of my dad, with his role in the business. I did computer science at uni as well, so I already had a strong interest in the field.
3. And have you noticed any benefits the course has had on you on a personal level?
I have found it very interesting, particularly as I’m currently learning about web design. I have been able to apply my learning to this real-world working environment as we continue to work on Cafe Casa, one of our branch divisions.
4. No apprenticeship comes without its challenges. Can you tell us about your biggest challenge so far, either exclusive to a particular module or in general?
The most challenging part so far has been trying to start my reports as I am less confident in my writing ability.
5. What are your long-term goals and how can your apprenticeship help you achieve them?
My long-term goal is to see how much I can learn from Coinadrink and through my apprenticeship, and see if I can use that to become more competent in my field.
6. You are obviously undertaking this apprenticeship with the help of Coinadrink. How have the company supported you so far?
The company has been really helpful as they have helped to sort out all the documentation which was needed for me to start the apprenticeship as well as help me to organise my time better. I now have 2 online meetings a week to factor into my timetable so their support has been really helpful.

Jack joined us earlier this year and we have been really pleased by his commitment and desire towards his apprenticeship. Long may that continue! Jack has already shown evidence of being able to apply his learning to his role, and recently created an online support system so that IT can streamline and enhance their support to colleagues if they ever encounter an issue. This has been very well received by us all.
Well done, Jack. Keep on going with team Coinadrink!
