On British Sandwich Week, munch on some facts and history!
This week is dedicated to a very special occasion, devised to celebrate a piece of food that many of us simply adore; the sandwich. For the love of the great British invention, these next five days are the perfect opportunity to show your appreciation!
The history of this on-the-go snack does indeed stem back to our Nation, and has gone on to become extremely popular worldwide. It’s so popular, in fact, that there is more than one name used to describe it, and how we refer to it will largely depend on factors such as our upbringing and location. Sarnies, baps, rolls or butties, the descriptions are almost endless, but such is the reputation of the sandwich that everyone will know what you mean. Ever since John Montague, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, ordered slices of cold beef in between two slices of cold toast, the rest was history, and the notion of having a hearty meal quickly and easily soon took off.
It goes without saying, then, that we love a good sandwich! Collectively, we eat our way through 11.5 billion a year, buy over 3.5 billion, and spend nearly £8 billion on them, mostly from popular retailers such as Subway, Greggs and Tesco. To celebrate their high demand, sandwich manufactures and retailers will announce special offers for this week only, while you may also find special one-time varieties for you to enjoy.
Coinadrink have been placing delicious sandwiches in our fresh food machines for years, with lots of variety to suit even the fussiest of employees. Traditional favourites such as ham and cheese and cheese and onion are joined by more adventurous flavours to really get your taste buds soaring, such as Coronation Chicken and BLT. They’re perfect for when lunch time is creeping closer, or for just when you want a solid snack to see you through your morning.
The sandwich is jam packed with history, and Coinadrink make it quick, easy and tasty to enjoy one.
