The amusing link between animals and vending machines!
Can you remember the first time you used a vending machine? First developed by the handiwork of Heron of Alexandria many, many years ago, vending machines have gone from strength to strength to dispense numerous items that we simply cannot be without. In a remarkable piece of news that’s you may have heard lately, it seems that animals are the latest species to appreciate the service. Crows, monkeys and otters have recently been spotted using a vending machine or something similar, highlighting just how accessible the vending industry possibly is…
Animals who know exactly how a vending machine works!
Touted as ‘redefining intelligence’ by the BBC, a small South Pacific island is home to a very, very clever animal with truly remarkable abilities. Even leading scientists have been hooked by a Caledonian Crow, who is the centre of an investigation looking into the intelligence of the species. A makeshift vending machine has been specially created to test their problem solving abilities and it’s safe to say that ‘Emma’ has passed with flying colours. If you’d pardon the pun.
Check out the video below which shows how Emma manages to ‘create’ the correct ‘currency’ needed in order for the machine to dispense a treat for her.
Animals that can collect your selection for you…
Okay, so this animal isn’t quite as clever as Emma the crow, but take nothing away from his ability. If you ever find yourself at the Tsukumi Dolphin Island in Japan, check out this smart otter that can retrieve your selection from the vending machine for you when it’s dispensed!
This is the best of the lot…
They say we share a lot of our characteristics with monkeys and this video may have just emphasised the case. This cute animal remarkably inserts the correct amount of money into a genuine vending machine, even smiling for the camera in the process, before giving the change back to the person recording and collecting his item.
The video below will put your doubts to rest!
The monkey is definitely our favourite, but what’s yours? Leave a comment below or on our social media platforms and let us know!
